The Drury Hotels

If you’ve been listening to our podcast for a while you’ve probably heard us talk about the Drury Hotel Company.

I stayed at their Pittsburgh location this month when I ran the Pittsburgh Marathon. It is one of their newer locations, a beautiful downtown building that they restored. My room was just blocks from the starting line.

Drury became our first sponsor back when we were just fledgling podcasters. Continue Reading →

Does everyone suffer the last 6-8 miles of a marathon?

Here’s a question from an Academy member named Lyndi about the later miles of a marathon . . .

I have lots of questions following my marathon yesterday. Does everyone suffer (horribly) for the last 6-8 miles and it is just part of the experience or is there genuinely a way to train so that it doesn’t end that way? It’s still my go-to marathon hat all this time later.

Fast forward 10 years and 52 marathons later, here’s what I’ve learned . . .

Finding and dishing out running inspiration

Cari Masek
Cari Masek started running in seventh grade when two of her friends thought they should all do cross-country together.

Her friends never showed up but Masek did. And she continues to show up as a runner (completing 34 races in 2017) and as a coach (eight teams and counting).

It was a slow beginning for Masek. She didn’t have running gear so she wore jean shorts to practice.

“My race times were slow,” she recalls. “I got picked on for how I looked, and of course, those jean shorts, but I didn’t give up. Continue Reading →
