Congrats to our client Bill Drinkward who never ceases to inspire us! He built back after injury and finished the Chicago Marathon in 3:21:21. He writes,

“My third Chicago Marathon was just as satisfying as my prior races here, though for different reasons. Having both my daughter and son-in-law on course created a great family bonding experience for us.

Cara was put one corral behind me which gave me about a 4 minute head start on her. Maybe it was knowing that she was hunting me that pushed me.

The weather was ideal so I applied myself with consistent “Level 7 effort” and a “smile” as Kenyan Pro Wesley Korir advised runners to do in the Hospitality Tent early Sunday morning. When it felt hard, the smile was forced, and helpful.

I ran the second half only 25 seconds slower than the first half while self-pacing through the entire race to finish in 3:21:21. Cara crossed the finish line 20 seconds behind me in 3:17:12 for a new PR.

We each have an approximately eight minute buffer for a possible return to Boston together in 2027.

A huge shout out to MTA Coach Steven for helping me restore my fitness and capabilities for racing as I return from injuries earlier this year. So great to be back at it!” -Bill Drinkward
