
Thanks to our client Jen Harper for sending in this testimonial about working with MTA Coach Lynn. She ran both the Athens Marathon and Huntsville Marathon and made great time! She writes,
“A year ago when a group of friends and I decided to run the Athens Original Marathon in November, I knew it was time to get a coach! I had run marathons in the past but most of them were flat and in cold weather. For someone who doesn’t enjoy running in the heat or doing hills, Athens was going to be out of my comfort zone and I knew it!
What Coach Lynn taught me
I started working with MTA Coach Lynn in January and she got me back into doing regular speed work and hills and consistent mileage. I learned how to rate the intensity of my workouts to make sure I was getting as much benefit out of them as possible. She trained me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable during hard workouts and she taught me a lot about fueling and hydrating that I never knew. I apparently NEVER drank enough during workouts or races in all my 13 years of running before this! Once I trained my body to take in the amount of hydration it needed, recovery was so much better and it was a serious game changer!
Athens Marathon
My goal for Athens was to feel confident mentally as well as physically for the challenging course and to finish under the 5 hour mark. I finished in 4:52 and although it was hard, I fueled perfectly and felt strong enough to pick it up the last 10k after the hills were over! Running into the beautiful Panathenaic Stadium to the finish line made the whole race worth it!! Also my friend and I met Dean Karnazes on the course and got to run and chat with him briefly.🤯 We couldn’t believe it, What an amazing experience!!Huntsville Marathon
As great as Athens was, I just couldn’t quit thinking about my whole year of training and wondering what I could’ve done if I tested it on a flatter course in cooler weather. Soooo I asked Lynn what she thought and she agreed to coach me through the recovery and build to the Huntsville marathon five weeks later. Our goal for Huntsville was 4:35 and I came in at 4:32:04 !!🎉🏃🏽♀️🤗This year with Coach Lynn has taught me a lot but mostly to believe in myself and have the confidence to go for my goals. I thought new PR’s were behind me but now I believe I’m on my way to making new ones!
