Concerning the 11,000 runners cutting the course at the Mexico Marathon, I had the chance to meet with the organizers of that race during the Miami Marathon Expo a few weeks ago. I bluntly asked them who is it possible that 11,00 runners cut the course, as reported.

This is what they told me. I am not vouching for what they said, just reporting on it.

They told me that 11,000 runners registered and did not start. It seems they have a nice shirt and package and people register just for that and then they don’t run. They said that some media outlet reported on this stating they were cheaters and the snowball effect followed, degenerating into thousands upon thousands of cheaters.

As I said, I am just relaying what I was told.

Thanks for sharing what you learned from the Mexico Marathon race organizers. It definitely makes more sense that not all those disqualified were out there cutting the course.
