New PR at the Berlin Marathon

This is from our client David H. who’s been working with MTA Coach Antonio for the last year. He ran 3:29:11 at Berlin after a busy season of running ultras. He writes,

MTA Coach Antonio has done an incredible job dealing with my crazy racing schedule and getting me to incorporate more rest, recovery and long slow running into my training that allowed me to do 4 ultras earlier this last year.

This includes getting first place for my age group at the SF Ultra Marathon (which involves running 2 marathons, the first starting at 10:15pm and then running the official marathon at 5:30am!).

Most recently I was able to join Antonio in running the Berlin Marathon but also wanted to do the “Beat the Blerch” race a couple weeks before.

Antonio suggested I do the half marathon for the Beat the Blerch to keep with my training for Berlin. I tried keeping my effort moderate for the Beat the Blerch and got a half marathon PR of 1:39:35.

Then 2 weeks later in Berlin I was feeling so great that after the first half of the marathon I realized if I pushed a bit in the second half I had a chance at passing the 3:30 pacer. After weaving around the crowds and pushing hard the last 5 miles I ended up with another PR coming in at 3:29:11!

I can’t thank Antonio enough for all his help with achieving my goals of being able to do crazy ultra adventures and continuing to improve my performance on the road!” -David H.
