12 Marathons in 12 Months with MTA Coaching

Here’s a post from our client Heather Grazzini-Sims who had an awesome year. Enjoy!

“MTA Coach Abby was a huge asset to my success of completing 12 marathons in 12 months!

I started working with Coach Abby of MTA in the fall of 2021. I had several marathons under my belt at this time and had worked on and off with other coaches but I needed a change.

I like the process that MTA has for selecting coaches based on the runner’s profile. I also like that Coach Abby lives in a similar region, so our running conditions are often the same. After working together for about a year, I knew she could help me with my next crazy idea. Continue Reading →

Cruising Through the Dopey Challenge at Age 70!

Major congrats to our coaching client Dale Moss who finished the Disney Dopey Challenge (which included his first full marathon!). He writes,

“In anticipation of passing my 70th birthday in 2022 I decided to do something to celebrate. I signed up for the 2023 Disney World Marathon Weekend Dopey Challenge. The Challenge, for those who don’t know, is running a 5K on Thursday, a 10K on Friday, a half-marathon on Saturday, and a full marathon on Sunday during the Weekend.

I have run many 5K’s, 10K’s, and half-marathons but this would be my first full marathon.

I realized that to complete this I would need a coach. After looking around the Web and finding great reviews for MTA I contacted Coach Nicole and I was placed with Coach Kristen.

How I Ran 3 Marathons in 30 Days

I didn’t set out to run three marathons in thirty days at the beginning of this year.

Originally I was only signed up to do the Manchester City Marathon in November with my sister Autum but then I decided to go for a PR at the Hartford Marathon in October. Then Trevor (my husband) talked me into running the Nor’witch Marathon in Vermont one week after Hartford which then gave me three marathons to run in the space of thirty days.

If you’re thinking about doing long distance races close to each other it’s important to ask yourself a few questions to determine how wise it is. Continue Reading →

A Dopey Idea: The 2018 Dopey Challenge [Part 4]

Post Four: Marathon Day

The last morning that alarm went off, I could not have been more relieved. It was the last ridiculous wakeup, the last ridiculous race, and the last ridiculous bedtime. When I went to sleep that night, I could count myself done with seeing the front end of 3:30 AM (at least until I forgot the pain of staring her right in the eyes multiple mornings in a row).

For the Walt Disney World Marathon, we dressed as Captain America and Ironman. I had another backpack, a well-made version of Cap’s shield with thick wide straps, so we left extra time again for bag check. Continue Reading →

A Dopey Idea: The 2018 Dopey Challenge [Part 3]

Post Three: Only Half Dopey

I’ve run many half marathons in my life, but never under the conditions of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon en route to completing my Dopey Challenge. I had already run the 5K and 10K, “all” that was left were the Half and Full.

After feeling so under-prepared the morning of the 10K, you can bet I made extra sure to be ready for the half marathon. We went to bed nice and early and were extra responsible about hydrating the day before (though our plans went slightly awry when housekeeping woke us up at an hour which, for us, was the middle of the night despite it being an entirely “normal” 8:00 PM).
