We love it when a plan comes together! Coach Abby designed a custom training plan for Ryuji who ran the Budapest Half Marathon in 2:25:17! Here’s a note from his daughter, Maki.

I just wanted to let you know dad and I completed the Budapest Half marathon on Sunday, and it went really well! It was such a beautiful city, and each mile went past so quickly as we were enjoying the sights by the Danube river. 🧡

Dad really didn’t want to walk for the first 3 miles and I had to force him to start walking 30 secs after each mile, from mile 4. He kept on speeding up, and I made him run at about 10 mins 30 – 11 mins pace. I told him we can run faster if he still felt good at mile 11, but by then he didn’t have enough energy to run faster. But he didn’t really slow down either, which I was really impressed with.

We finished in 2:25, 20 mins faster than his fist half marathon he ran last year! He looked like he was in pain after the race but after a nap, he was totally fine! It’s thanks to all that training he was able to recover so fast, so thank you very much.

He said he realised how if he went too fast in the beginning, the way he wanted to, he would have ran out of energy by the end, so he understands now that the 30 secs walk each mile is a must.

Next is the Tokyo marathon! -Maki
